Federal Broadband Infrastructure · BEAD

Supporting the Texas Broadband Buildout.

Texas holds the largest Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment allocation in the country — and the constraint on delivery is trained technicians, not funding.

On November 20, 2025, NTIA approved the Texas Broadband Development Office’s Final Proposal — more than $1.3 billion in combined federal and state matching funds, awarded to serve over 240,000 broadband serviceable locations and more than 2,700 community anchor institutions. Roughly 123,000 of those locations are slated for end-to-end fiber. Construction is expected to begin as soon as summer 2026, with awardees given four years to complete their builds.

Texas has been explicit that a shortage of certified fiber optic technicians is the state’s most critical barrier to broadband expansion, and has committed tens of millions of dollars to broadband workforce development. Projects stall for want of splicers and installers, not dollars.

Where DDTG Fits

Federal broadband dollars flow from the state to ISP subgrantees to contractors and subcontractors. DDTG works at that last step — providing fiber field crews to subgrantees and their general contractors — and trains the technicians who staff them through DIIP Workforce Academy in Temple. We address both the labor and the capacity side of the same problem.
